The full moon has this habit of rising over the stunning and rugged red rock mesa that frames the Bahia de SanJaunico in Baja California where desert meets the sea and where I have lived off and on for 7 years. The moon became my theme as I always make a point to watch it rise and to take photos whenever possible. Yes, I have hundreds of moon photos but who could get tired of seeing the moon, or the sun for that matter? The moon is a constant, a thing we can count on, it is a wonderful sort of mix of science and mystery on this swiftly turning planet. At times the clouds slightly obscure the moon creating more interest for photos. See how it is underlined by that cloud on my front page. When the moon is in mid cycle we see venus in the early evening next to the moon. The dark sky here allows us to enjoy stargazing at it’s very best. I live here for many reason, one is for love of moon gazing. If you like to follow the moon phases and want to know more about it go to the website on my blogroll www.die.net/moon
Let a moon rise excite you or just stop and take notice where it is in the sky at certain times, it will surprise you and steer you off into a moment of contemplation and peace, a pause from intense thinking and doing. We are always baja…below the moon.
I like this little phrase from the Buddha:
Meditate. Live purely. Be quiet. Do your work with mastery. Like the moon, come out from behind the clouds! Shine.
I awake each morning to the sound of the surf, the beach calls me and my 2 little dogs to walk the 3 blocks to the beach to see what is going on. We arrive on the top of a sand dune a good vantage point to survey where the tide is and decide if we want to go north or south, to the bay or to the coast for a walk, so many choices.
I am Cynthia, a lover of all things Mexican and Baja is a small slice of that. I have a small house, 2 small dogs of a breed we can only guess as a ‘Salsa’ mix. A curious mix of some short legged breed, perhaps dachsund or corgie, mixed with a ??- who knows what. I have a nice husband who loves to go fishing and enjoys what ever I cook. We enjoy a lifestyle very simple and quiet, dinners with friends, walks on the beach, surfing and fishing, close to nature, a lot of outdoor time. Our house is open air on the top floor with a view of the bay framed by the mesas. I have much to share and explore in this blog. The geology, the people, the characters who move here, the culture, food, plants, animals, traditions and goings on in a place so small it is even called Punta Pequena, this little bit of land we live on, far from the fast lane on the Pacific rim.
My passion is cooking with food from the sea and fresh vegetables and herbs from my garden. I love to share food with friends, find a fusion of intense flavor put together to please the pallet. It is easy for me to put a meal together in minutes with what is presented each day by my husband who is the catcher of the fish. In my recipe section I give you some of my favorites, some I keep secret. I like people to taste and guess what is the unusual flavor in a salsa or sauce. If I gave them all away it would be no fun. I know so many good cooks, I like them to share with me things that have been a favorite or how they tried something new. I love the recipes from Moms and grandmothers, traditions, exotic flavors from all over the world. If you have some of these to share, please do!

More pic’s please!
We want to see your lovely face.
Hi Cynthia,
Greetings for the great white north. We are starting to experience summer like weather these days. The average temperature is around 60-65 degrees during the day. One thing about here is that it goes from spring to summer in about a week. I hope you are well and life is treating you good. I did enjoy our stay with you guys last February. You live in a beautiful part of the world unaffected by the goings on of the rat race. I tried you Tuna recipe with the spices you gave me. It turned out ok, nothing like yours. I think I got the sauce wrong, what did you put on it was it soya sauce? I going to try again hopefully with better luck. Our trip to Phenix was a blast. I would repeat it in a heart beat.
Any way love your blog, continue to enter adventures about life in the magnificent Baja.
Take care
Glen
